The project
To celebrate Bogotá’s birthday, the city’s Secretaría de Cultura commissioned a free show for the public built on two ideas: a visual, narrative and iconic element of the city, and active audience participation. For the first, digital graffiti was chosen as a form of expression that represents both the present of the city and its history. For the second, some citizens took part in live virtual interventions.
One of the side facades of the Museo Nacional was intervened digitally with several technologies (mapping, projection, real-time creation of digital urban art) by artists from the Vertigo Graffiti collective.
The show had three acts, each 25 minutes long, tracing the history of wall expression in Bogotá: conversations between past and present, between traditional forms and the aesthetics of urban art and graffiti, and the country’s search for peace. It took place on Thursday, August 4, 2016, during the city’s night bike ride (ciclovía nocturna), for thousands of participants.
